Philanthropy isn’t just a check, it’s much more. For Black Coloradans, this isn’t just history. It’s a love story between a people and their promise to each other. A visual guide for how we right wrongs, honor truth, and build a future grounded in generosity and joy.
Why: These films matter because Colorado’s Black communities deserve to be seen, heard, and understood. Their stories, too often erased or ignored, hold the keys to building a more equitable future. This isn’t just a documentary. It’s a tool for action. A record and a catalyst. A mirror and a blueprint. It preserves history while calling viewers, leaders, and institutions to confront inequity and invest in justice.
If I’m being honest, Colorado isn’t the only place that needs this story. All of America does. At a time when humanity is under attack, we must look to those who’ve survived systems never built to serve them and still found ways to love, to build, and to thrive.
When I think about what it took for me to simply be born. two parents, four grandparents, and eight great-grandparents, it took 4,094 people over 12 generations across 400 years. People who endured the unimaginable and still found the strength to create a future for me and my children.
That is true philanthropy.
This film is more than a film. It’s a blueprint for how we love each other, how we share what we have, and how we build a future where we don’t just survive. We thrive. And we do it with joy, laughter, hope, style, grace, and a whole lotta love.
